#35 – New Zealand Tahr with Monty Nixon

This week host Matty is joined by his youngest guest yet Monty Nixon. Although he is only 19, don’t let his age fool you as this young man has some of the best tips available when it comes to hunting Tahr on both the west and east coasts of New Zealand!

Monty spends a lot of his time tracking the New Zealand terrain for his work as a trapper. He explains how this helps to keep him ‘mountain fit’ to get him into the harshest terrain to find the big bull tahr.

The boys dive into where the big bulls typically are, what they feed on, when they’re breeding/rutting, the best ways to spot them and of course monty’s methods for hunting them!

Monty also loves diving for crays and spear fishing. Although the boys don’t go too deep down this route they dive into the NZ crays as well as Monty’s plans to take the next year off to go hunting!
